This post is not about cookbooks, but it’s too good not to share.
Today, a crew of volunteers (town & school staff, Americorps volunteers, and a number of us parents) erected the skeleton of a greenhouse at our local elementary school. One of us remarked, “It’s like an Amish barn-raising!”
We had 15 willing pairs of hands, several donated hours of a backhoe, and funding from PeoplesBank. Still to come: endwall construction and installing the covering film. But this was extraordinary for one day’s work.
There are 2 or 3 more days of work left, if you include building the framed raised beds that will go within. Once we complete it, students will be able to use the greenhouse for many projects–including raising lettuce for the school’s salad bar.
